Lutzie 43’s Inaugural Auburn Weekend

On April 6-7, 2018, Lutzie 43 hosted its inaugural Auburn Weekend. The weekend consisted of a flag football game, powderpuff football game, 5k race and field day for special needs students. All of our events took place on Auburn University’s campus on A-Day weekend, so we were able to celebrate with current and former students, as well as all of the Auburn fans in town! Lutzie 43 Foundation board member Bo Jackson also joined to support the event as a coach for the flag football events.

Our first Lutzie 43 Auburn Weekend meant a lot to the foundation, as it was special for Philip’s family and the Lutzie 43 Foundation as a whole to celebrate the legacy Philip left on this special campus.

Lutzie 43 is very grateful to have partnered with two on-campus groups to facilitate the weekend’s events. For the second year in a row, Auburn’s ATO fraternity ran the ATO Lutzie 43 Powderpuff Football Tournament for women’s groups. ATO also added an ATO Lutzie 43 Flag Football Tournament for men’s groups.  The men’s Flag Football Tournament sold out after reaching maximum capacity!

Lutzie 43 also partnered with Auburn’s Tri Delta sorority to host the first-ever Tri Delta Lutzie 5k on April 7. Over 200 runners participated in the event, which took them on a 3.1-mile route through Auburn’s campus.

All the proceeds raised from Auburn Weekend were given back to Auburn University through The Philip Lutzenkirchen Excellence in Public Speaking Award. This award is given out annually through a scholarship in the School of Communication and Journalism.

We are so thankful for all who came out this weekend to support #Lutzie43 and celebrate Philip’s life! We hope to return back next year for another Auburn weekend.
