Meet Audrey Greene, a 2026 PFL Scholarship Winner

Receiving the 2026 Prepared for Life (PFL) Scholarship is incredibly meaningful to me because the message behind this scholarship has both inspired and motivated me to be a better driver and person. When I first learned about Philip’s story through Mr. Mike Lutzenkirchen, I realized it was about so much more than just safe driving. It was about being disciplined, making smart decisions, staying true to yourself, and thinking about how your actions can also affect other people. Being chosen for this scholarship is such an honor and a blessing because those are all values I try to live by every day.

I was first introduced to Philip’s story when Mr. Mike Lutzenkirchen and others came to speak at a safety seminar at Lowndes High School during my sophomore year. As a 16 year old just starting to drive, listening to him share Philip’s story opened my eyes to how serious distracted driving truly is. This really stuck with me since I had just started driving, and I still value the lessons I learned from Mr. Mike and the others who spoke during the program that day. His presentation showed me how quickly lives can change and how important it is to stay focused and responsible behind the wheel.

One lesson from the 43 Key Seconds safe driving initiative that especially stayed with me was “Clear Hands”. Before learning about the program, it was easy to think that checking a phone or becoming distracted for a second was harmless. However, at the beginning of the program that day, hearing and seeing real impactful stories helped me understand that even a split second of distraction can have lifelong consequences. These consequences affect multiple people, families, and communities. Since the program, putting away distractions before driving has become a habit and a commitment that I take seriously every single day.

The message of safe driving also connected deeply with me because of my dad’s career in highway safety. Growing up, he often shared stories about crashes that were caused by distracted driving that he had encountered throughout his career. Hearing stories like that from such a young age also helped me understand the importance of being aware of my surroundings, while also being a responsible driver while on the road. While those conversations were very difficult at times, they ultimately taught me lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

One lesson from the Safeguarding Your Legacy curriculum that really stood out to me was discipline. Throughout high school, I have learned how important it is to stay focused on your goals and make choices that reflect your values. Whether it is staying committed to academics, balancing extracurricular activities, or making responsible decisions, discipline plays a huge role in your everyday life. The 43 Key Seconds program showed me that discipline also applies to driving because staying focused and avoiding distractions can protect not only your own life, but the lives of everyone around you while you are on the road.

The application process also challenged me to think more intentionally about the kind of impact I want to leave on others. One thing that inspires me most about Philip’s story is the way he continues to influence people years later through the legacy he left behind. He clearly lived with passion, kindness, and purpose, and those qualities are still changing lives today. That reminded me that leadership is not always about recognition or accomplishments. Sometimes leadership is shown through simple daily actions, encouraging others, making responsible choices, and treating people with kindness and respect.

I will be attending Georgia College & State University, where I plan to study nursing, in hopes of ultimately becoming a nurse practitioner. I am very excited to start this next chapter of my life, meet new people, and continue growing both academically and personally. No matter where life takes me, I want to continue carrying the lessons I learned from 43 Key Seconds by making safe decisions, staying disciplined, and encouraging those around me to do the same.

Receiving this scholarship is not only an honor, but also a reminder of the responsibility we all have to protect ourselves and those around us. Philip Lutzenkirchen’s story has inspired me to think more carefully about the choices I make every day and how those choices affect others. I am incredibly humbled and grateful for the opportunity to be connected to a legacy that continues to encourage young people to live with discipline, purpose, and compassion.
