Meet our Lutzie 43 Intern, Haley

Thank you to our 2019 summer intern, Haley Hughes for providing this post.

War Eagle! My name is Haley Hughes, and I am a senior at Auburn University majoring in marketing. This past summer, I had the wonderful opportunity to intern with the Lutzie 43 Foundation. I grew up in a family that loves Auburn and football, so I watched Philip play many games in Jordan-Hare Stadium. When Philip passed away and the Lutzenkirchen family started the foundation, I followed their work closely and greatly admired everything they were doing. I had the opportunity to hear Mr. Mike Lutzenkirchen speak at my church and remember being challenged about what kind of legacy I would be leaving.

Fast forward a few years later and my connection to the foundation grew stronger. My sorority, Delta Delta Delta, partnered with the Lutzie 43 Foundation two years ago to host a 5K during Auburn Weekend. I served as our chapter’s “Lutzie 43 Chair” this past year, meaning I was responsible for helping plan and organize Auburn Weekend 2019. I reached out to Mr. Mike Lutzenkirchen about the possibility of me interning with the foundation this summer because I thoroughly enjoyed working with the foundation and wanted to continue to do so.

Over the summer, I was able to attend the annual golf tournament at Pursell Farms and host a virtual run in Montgomery for the annual Road Race. My main focus for the summer was to build an ambassador program where high school and college students could empower those around them to be safe drivers. This program makes way for students to apply for the foundation’s PFL scholarship. I also had the privilege of attending several meetings with different companies, organizations, and universities to discuss cobranding opportunities for the 43 Key Seconds countdown card, key, & lanyard.

This past summer has been one of the best summers of my life. I am forever thankful for this opportunity and the Lutzie 43 Foundation.
