Meet Bo Stockard, a 2025 PFL Scholarship Winner

Receiving the Prepared for Life (PFL) Scholarship means a lot to me—not just as a student, but as someone who works to lead by example. I’ve always tried to be a positive influence on the people around me—whether it’s in the classroom, on the field, or just in everyday situations. Being recognized for that leadership is truly humbling. It’s a reminder that doing the right thing matters and that your actions can have a real impact on the people around you.

One of the things that makes this scholarship so meaningful to me is its mission to promote safe driving. That message hits close to home. I lost my cousin in a car accident, and it’s something that deeply impacted me and my family. It’s a moment you never forget—something that instantly changes how you view life, responsibility, and the choices we make behind the wheel. When I learned about Philip Lutzenkirchen’s story, it brought up a lot of those emotions again. But more than anything, I felt grateful—grateful that his story is being shared, that awareness is being raised, and that people are taking real steps to prevent other families from experiencing the kind of loss that mine did.

Through the PFL Scholarship application process, I learned how critical safe driving really is. I always knew it was important, but writing and reflecting on my experiences made me realize how easily one small decision can change everything. Whether it’s glancing at a phone, speeding up to beat a light, or driving distracted in any way—those moments matter. It only takes one mistake to impact your life and the lives of others forever. That’s a responsibility we all carry when we’re on the road, and it’s something I’ll never take lightly.

Being a PFL Scholarship recipient makes me feel even more motivated to spread the safe driving message to my peers. I want to help create a culture where safe driving is the norm—not the exception. I try to speak up when I see friends making risky choices, and I’m always willing to be the one who drives safely, even if others don’t think it’s cool. To me, real leadership is doing the right thing, especially when it’s hard. And if I can help even one person make a better decision behind the wheel, then I know I’m living out the values this scholarship and the Lutzie 43 Foundation represents.

Outside of academics and leadership, I’m someone who loves staying active. I played football throughout high school, and sports have always been a big part of my life. I enjoy all kinds of athletics, but golf has a special place in my heart—I love spending time on the course whenever I can. I also enjoy playing guitar, which has become a great outlet for me to relax and express myself. When I’m not busy with school or sports, you can usually find me hanging out with friends or spending time with my golden retriever, Hank. He’s the best—loyal, goofy, and always ready to play fetch.

Looking ahead, I’m excited about the future. I know that the lessons I’ve learned—especially about responsibility, leadership, and safe driving—will stay with me no matter where life takes me. Whether I’m in college, pursuing a career, or just navigating the everyday choices of adulthood, I want to keep using my voice and actions to set a good example.

Being chosen as a PFL Scholarship recipient is something I’ll always be proud of. It’s not just about the financial support (though I’m very grateful for that too)—it’s about being part of a movement that honors Philip’s life and spreads a message that truly matters. I’m honored to carry that message forward and do my part to help others stay prepared, stay safe, and live with purpose.
