Meet Marsean Cohen, a 2024 PFL Scholarship Winner

My name is Marsean Cohen , and beeing awarded the 2024 Prepared for Life (PFL) Scholarship is more than just a financial boost—it’s a validation of my hard work and aspirations. The scholarship application process taught me invaluable lessons about resilience and self-reflection. I learned how to speak my goals clearly and confidently, which has boosted my self-assurance in all areas of my life. Moreover, the scholarship has introduced me to Philip Lutzenkirchen whose life and journey has inspired me deeply. I am a graduate of Simeon Career Academy in Chicago, Illinois, a school that has taught me a lot of things and helped me become the person I am today. Before attending Simeon, I attended a school called Bogan. Their football team wasn’t the best, but we still made it to the playoffs. Unfortunately, we ended up getting destroyed. However, our loss taught me that I wanted more than just making it to the playoffs; I wanted to win and make an impact on a team. So, I called my old basketball coach and asked if he could help me get into a better school. He contacted one of the best coaches in Simeon’s history, and I was able to enroll at Simeon. That coach alone had a huge impact on my life. Through Simeon, I also met Coach Nosa Eguae, who introduced me to this scholarship opportunity as a board member of the Lutzie 43 Foundation.

Nosa’s advice on navigating challenges and seizing opportunities has left a lasting impact. Applying for the PFL Scholarship reinforced my belief in the power of community and mentorship. I am eager to pay this support forward and help others on their paths to success. Winning this scholarship has not only changed my academic trajectory but has also enriched my perspective on personal growth and community impact. I am excited about the future and eager to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead! Earning this scholarship has taught me invaluable lessons beyond academic achievement. It has shown me the importance of perseverance and determination in pursuing my goals. Through the application process, I learned how to speak about my aspirations and showcase my strengths effectively. Receiving this scholarship has also reinforced the significance of community support and the impact of giving back. It has motivated me to strive for excellence not only for myself but also to contribute positively to my community and inspire others. This experience has instilled in me a deeper sense of responsibility and gratitude, driving me to continuously seek growth and make meaningful contributions to society.

About me: I currently am a Freshman playing football at Clarke University in Iowa. I love football and working out, but I also enjoy having fun with my family and friends. I’m grateful to have met my friends when I did because they have guided me down the right path. Their words have strengthened me and made me tougher and more successful. I love hanging out with friends, creating memories, playing games, trying new foods, exploring new things, and listening to music.
