I was always astounded watching Philip Lutzenkirchen play football for Auburn. Knowing he played football for Lassiter High School, a school I would soon be attending, I kept up with his football career. Being part of the Lassiter High School community, I have seen first hand the mission of Lutzie 43 grow since the loss of Philip.
Mr. Lutzenkirchen’s talk and going through the 43 Lessons to Legacy curriculum highlighted so much to me about the leader and light Philip Lutzenkirchen was on and off the football field. His legacy taught me to use my talents to brighten someone else’s day and has inspired me to live, love, and work my hardest.
After graduating high school, and leaving sports behind me, I picked up the hobby of running. Lutzie 43 Field became my favorite go to place to run to, at, around, and from. When I see that field, I am reminded of Philip’s story and Mr. Lutzenkirchen’s boldness when he spoke to the Lassiter student body. It was there where the quote stuck to my heart, “I know God’s working so I smile.”
No words can express the gratitude I have for the Lutzenkirchen family and the Lutzie 43 Foundation. They have opened up opportunities though this scholarship and I will forever be thankful for the impact Philip has on my life.
