Join us for Auburn Weekend in April!

Thank you to Haley Hughes for providing this blog post about Auburn Weekend!

Every April, the Lutzie 43 Foundation partners with Auburn Tri Delta & Auburn ATO to host Auburn Weekend. This weekend’s events include an Adaptive PE Field Day, a Flag Football and Powderpuff tournament and a 5K race! Not only is this a great way to fundraise for the Philip Lutzenkirchen Excellence in Public Speaking Scholarship, but it also helps keep Philip’s legacy alive in the Auburn community. All proceeds from Auburn Weekend go toward the endowment of the Philip Lutzenkirchen Excellence in Public Speaking Award, which is a $4,300 scholarship given out to the winner of a public speaking competition hosted by Auburn’s School of Journalism and Communications.

Auburn Weekend begins Friday morning when students with special needs around Lee County gather at Duck Samford Stadium to participate in the Adaptive PE Field Day. Getting to hang out with these kids and watch them run around with big smiles on their faces makes this event one of my favorite of the weekend.  They have the opportunity to play games, go through obstacle courses, jump on inflatables and even hang with Aubie. After the Adaptive PE Field Day, we head over to the Auburn football indoor practice facility for the Powderpuff & Flag football tournaments. The tournament is hosted by ATO fraternity and is a fun way to incorporate Philip’s legacy in a place where he spent a lot of time – the football field. Saturday morning, Tri Delta sorority hosts a 5K race that takes runners around Auburn’s beautiful campus. Avid runners, leisure walkers, people pushing strollers, children and even dogs are invited to participate in the 5K; it’s a laid back, fun way to bring people together to support the foundation and Philip’s legacy.

This weekend is special to me personally because it is the reason for my connection with the Lutzie 43 Foundation. This will be my third year participating in the Auburn Weekend events, and it is always an honor to support the foundation and watch it grow each year. As I near graduation, I’m eager to watch the foundation and Auburn Weekend continue to grow in the upcoming years. Philip’s life and legacy will always be remembered throughout the Auburn community!
